Hot Honey Grilled Cheese Recipe

Crispy hot honey grilled cheese with gooey melted cheese and a sweet spicy drizzle that takes it over the top.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter softened (or mayo)
  • 4 to 6 slices melty cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheese optional
  • 2 to 4 teaspoons hot honey
  • Optional add ins
  • jalapeƱos bacon, Dijon, flaky salt

Method

  1. Build sandwiches. Layer cheese on two bread slices. Add any optional add ins. Top with remaining bread.
  2. Butter the outside. Spread butter (or mayo) on the outside of each sandwich.
  3. Toast. Heat a skillet over medium low. Cook 3 to 4 minutes per side until deeply golden and the cheese is melted. Cover the pan for 30 seconds if needed to help the cheese melt.
  4. Add hot honey. Drizzle hot honey over the finished sandwiches (or open slightly and drizzle inside), then close and let it sit 30 seconds.
  5. Serve. Slice and serve warm. Add a pinch of flaky salt if you want extra contrast.

Notes

If the bread is browning too fast, lower the heat. The best grilled cheese takes a little patience.
Hot honey strength varies. Start small, then add more.
